MidiDo you want to compose music? Or just want to try out how far you can get with music making?
You don't know what tool to use?

Try out: LMMS - Linux MultiMedia Studio

And it's not only for Linux. It works under Windows as well.

Why LMMS?

Because it's easier to start with. I tried other tools, believe me.

> It's much easier to get your song to a WAV-file.
With other tools you have to record while you are plaing the song. It depents on your computing power. If it's not strong enough you will geht trop outs.
In LMMS: If you can hear the song (even with trop outs) it compiles the song to a WAV separately. If the song has just a few instruments LMMS can even compile it much faster then realtime.

> If you want to use some soundfont-files, it's easy to connect them.
Not so with other tools.

> It works under Linux and Windows.

The LMMS-Homepage says it all:

  • Song-Editor for composing songs
  • A Beat+Bassline-Editor for creating beats and basslines
